Reflection 8

Today we poker burned and sanded all our crosses. We also drilled holes into them and threaded some string through it to be hung on a Christmas tree or your wall. Finally, we polished off our advertisement posters and printed off a prototype to see what it would look like in real life. Dan was a big help too and fixed one of the ones I had accidentally stuffed up. The only really bad thing that happened today was that one of our gold painted pinecones broke and we weren't able to fix it. Overall I think we had quite a good day and are ready to set up and start selling on market way.

Reflection 7

Today I made really good progress and made another 4 crosses and we've nearly finished all of the pine cones and tree decorations. We finished our sign for Christmas tree ornaments and I used the poker burner to engrave some words into the crosses that I made. The sander I use to round the edges of my crosses burned out though so I then had to find an alternative which was to put a hand sander into a vice and use that. I also found the perfect stain for our crosses and it finishes them off beautifully.

Reflection 6

Today we spray-painted  some pine cones we had collected from Dan's farm and the drilled some holes into the decoration crosses and tied string around it. We also used a hot glue gun to attach string to the spray painted pine cones so that they are ready to be put on a Christmas tree. I finished another two crosses too and used the poker burner to engrave patterns and designs on them. Following up on what Mrs. Roland said, we also made a start on our advertisement posters and pamphlets.

Reflection 5

Today we had a assembly first block so we didn't get much done in the morning but in block 2 me Giacomo, Taye and Dan decided to join groups and we are now making comfort crosses Christmas tree crosses and pine cone ornaments. I have currently finished 2 crosses and am half way through another 2. The rest are sanded, cut, had their corners rounded and just need to have their sides curved and stained.

We've mad some pretty good progress on the Christmas ornaments too. The crosses are all sanded and Dan has the pine cones ready to go and collected at his house.

Week 4 Reflection - PREP

 Week 4 Reflection

Today I went straight to the wood work room and started rounding and shaping my crosses, at the moment I have 2 completely finished crosses and 1 half finished cross. All of my other crosses are cut and sanded but not rounded, shaped and stained.

I made some pretty good progress today and might decide to make a couple of them into Christmas ornaments. The only bad thing was that I accidentally over sanded one of my crosses and it is now a bit buggered although I could possibly make that into a design feature.

Week 3 Reflection

 Week 3 Reflection

Today I posted some photos of me cutting the log of wood I'll be using for my project, sanding it etc.          I then went into the work shop to cut my log of wood into crosses on the drop saw and smooth the edges on an electric sander. There were a couple of things that went wrong in this procedure; one being that the band saw I was using was uneven and resulted in my crosses thickness varying. Everything else was all good though and the wood coloring was exceptionally nice. The timber that my crosses are being made of is fejoa and has a really nice look to it if stained using a light wood rub.

Week 2 Reflection

 Week 2 Reflection

Today I filled in my details on career central and then went on to complete my CV personal attributes and personal skills. Finally I created a logo and slogan for my brand and published it on my blog along with the special features my product will contain and a picture.

One thing that I found quite annoying though was how the teachers didn't tell us that we were meant to go to our groups in the very beginning and I spent half the lesson in the wrong class.  One thing that did go well however was that we finally got to knw who our home teacher would be and who we needed to go to if we had any problems etcetera.

I didn't really learn any new business terms but I did find out a bit more about CV's, how to write them and what a employer wants to hear.

My Product

For my PREP product I will be making wooden crosses. The will be rounded around the edges and have designs and patterns engraved on the wood with a poker burner. Unfortunately I have not been able to represent these features in the google drawing above.

Week 1 Reflection - PREP

 Week 1 PREP Reflection

Reflection                                                                                                                              Today I found out who my Prep teacher would be for this trimester then completed the innovative paper challenge. For the challenge I made a paper boat. It's attributes that made it stand out from the rest of the crowd was the eccentric designs on it's hull. My intended audience would be the younger kids who like to race these types of things down rivers and streams. Next I started and finished my business proposal and completed my recourses table. I found that my business proposal went really well and wasn't too confusing although it was little bit annoying that my computer died in the middle of it. I learnt 3 new words used in business terminology, being acquisition - the purchase of one company or resources by another, assets - property that has value owned by another company and audit - an official inspection of a company's or individuals accounts. In preparation of next week I need to find some wood and thin it out if it's not already in the right thickness I need it to be.
